Today after attending church we ventured out with AH's parents to the cemetery to pay our respects to some family. Grandma put together a quick little lesson for the kiddos that covered what cemeteries are for and included a photo of who we were going to visit. It was very touching to hear her talk of her parents.
As we pulled through the entrance of the cemetery I was immediately taken aback by the tall billowing flags that lined the drive. Mr. B asked what the flags were for and Grandma tearfully replied that they were for the soldiers who had died. I shed a tear or two at that moment as well.
We found the site that we were looking for and had a family photo taken by a caretaker at the grave of Grandma's parents. Mr. B loved all the graves that had white crosses and American flags attached. He knew these were put only on sites of those who had served in the military and it totally fascinated him. Next year he wants to make sure we bring flowers to lay on all the graves of the "soldiers".
Happy Memorial Day!
